Brits feel blue about post lockdown travel

The reality of coronavirus has meant that for many in the UK, upcoming holiday plans have been postponed or cancelled entirely. Even when travel restrictions are lifted, many are wary of travelling abroad, in fact 85% raised concerns including fear, anxiety and worries about safety, according to new figures* released today.

The research, from personal finance experts at money.co.uk reveals that even once foreign travel is allowed again, holidaymakers are anxious (27%), concerned (26%), worried about safety (20%) and scared to travel (12%).

Almost a third (31%) are worried about their existing booking for 2020, a quarter (23%) are going to see if they can postpone, and more than one in 10 (13%) are planning to cancel it entirely.

Salman Haqqi, personal finance expert at money.co.uk said: “The UK Government has advised the public not to travel abroad for their holidays. There is currently no end date in place for the restrictions, though they have said they will aim to relax this guidance when possible.

“If your holiday was supposed to take place soon, it’s very possible that it’s already been cancelled. Your first step should be to contact your transport and accommodation providers directly, or your travel agency if you booked a package holiday.

“Some airlines are trying to get their customers to take vouchers for future flights instead of refunding cancelled flights, but you do not have to accept this. Stand your ground, and get your money back, if that is what you wish to do.

“If you are worried about a holiday you have booked for later in the year, UK Government travel advisories like the one in place now can make it easier for you to get your money back from a trip that has not yet been cancelled.”

The personal finance experts at money.co.uk have launched a dedicated coronavirus hub to support people worried about their finances during the crisis, including a new travel guide; https://www.money.co.uk/guides/coronavirus-holiday-travel-guide / https://www.money.co.uk/guides/coronavirus
