Post Office Mortgages - Fast and Efficient

My partner and I are first time buyers, we had looked around mortgage deals before deciding to go with the post office. We had our offer accepted on the Monday, that evening we completed our Mortgage in Principle, within a matter of minutes we had a decision and a certificate to send to the estate agent. We then completed the full application the evening after and were told the application was successful. Within a week the survey and valuation were booked and we had our mortgage offer the following week! We exchanged in 4 weeks thanks to the speediness of the post office. They kept us up to date throughout the entire process so we were aware what was going on, sending us text messages to let us know which stage we were at. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

Kept us informed, fast, good customer service

Very poor service: 5 weeks and counting

If you have an alternative I'd suggest you go with it and preserve your sanity. I have responded to their every request by the next day and it's been 5 weeks now and still no response to my application. I've honestly spent hours on the phone (at 13p/min) and have received nothing but push back. They have denied receiving the information and when pressed during the call it magically appears, confirmation of my salary must come from the company director not the accountant, information cannot be emailed you must use the post, delays of weeks in their request for information because they couldn't find the postcode, 2-3 days before someone can call you back to tell you it'll be another few days before they get an answer.

The vendor is now threatening to pull out of the deal and the post office simply don't care. As you will know, they have already received their expensive application fee which they won't return.

Be careful who you choose to work with....

Post Office mortgage - shocking delays derailing our purchase

Seven weeks after we submitted our application, the Post Office / Bank of Ireland have only just started to look at our paperwork, and only because we have had our conveyancer write them two different letters to try and escalate the application.

The valuation was eventually instructed after repeated chasing. This has now been completed but it's barely any use as they haven't started looking at our docs.

Last time I called they apologised for the bad service and said they are struggling with huge backlogs, and it could be several weeks or even months until we receive an offer. They said if we are not happy they recommend we withdraw our application and look at another lender. They said thousands of applicants are in the same boat, calling every day complaining about long delays.

Post Office mortgages are a ticking time bomb at the moment. All brokers seem to know this. I only wish I had known this too before I applied. Our vendor is likely to pull out if we don't see serious progress very soon. This would cause us major problems and serious stress.

Post Office Mortgage

As I only had 15% deposit, I needed to shop around and really compare deals. Mine was a private deal so I had time to compare as I was not pushed by a seller/estate agent. The Post Office Mortgage offered the lowest interest rate for the initial period as well as the follow on interest rate. I liked the fact that I could apply over the internet. The deal was quick and I was kept informed at all times by post and/or telephone. I would use them again without hesitation

Post Office Mortgages

My husband and I were looking through various fixed rate mortgages and we ended up applying online through Post Office. I am pleased with the mortgage that we've chosen, the rate is really affordable, the communication has been great and everything has been done online. I didn't have to go in the branch for an interview or anything. How handy!
