Absolutely awful

My husband and I took out the annual multi-trip policy. Unfortunately, due to the critical illness of a family member we had to cancel a trip and file a claim with the underwriters. Not only would they ONLY accept information from the GP who wasn't involved with the admission and therefore wouldn't comment, but every time we provided them what they asked for they came back asking for more! It has been three months now and thankfully the relative has survived although is still in intensive care and we're still jumping through hoops for the underwriter.

On top of that, when you took out the annual policy they promised a £10 Debenhams voucher within 60 days. 5 months later we still don't have that and everyone says it's someone else's responsibility! That should have been a giant red flag about their service.

Cheap, for good reason!

Terrible customer service and ridiculous hoops to jump through

Be very careful...

My wife broke her leg skiing, so we claimed for ski passes & equipment unused, medical bills, and holiday curtailment. BUT - unlike other firms - Debenhams charges a £200 per person excess, per section, so for the above we had a £1200 excess - it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. To be fair they did fly us home and the company they outsource the help centre to was very good, but their actual policy is dreadful.

Price was cheap. Lesson learned.

Excess per person, per section claim.

Misleading advertising

I have bought a annual Debenhams Travel Insurance. It advertised £250 cover per person for a delayed flight. Our flight to Prague was recently delayed by 13 hours, and we had to stay overnight in Bristol. I have booked a hotel and had to pay for a taxi, plus a meal, which costed around £180 in total. (Who would stay overnight in an airport with two kids?) When I tried to make a claim, which is more than reasonable, Debenhams rejected on the basis that we were delayed less that 24 hours. Yes, they have this in their policy wording. And if we were indeed delayed by 24 hours (very rare anyone is) we were entitled only for £25 per person, instead of £250.

So, Debenhams are liars for their false advertisement. Avoid them at any cost.
