What we will pay for:
The Emergency Transport

The emergency transport is available worldwide during the period of cover to you while abroad if you are injured or become ill suddenly and need immediate hospital treatment as an in-patient and there are no suitable medical facilities locally.
The emergency transport is only available in these circumstances.
FirstAssist must be notified immediately you become ill or are admitted to hospital so that communication with the treating doctors can be established.
Once the medical condition has been assessed, arrangements may then be made to move or bring you back to the United Kingdom (repatriation) if in the opinion of the Chief Medical Officer this is medically necessary. If the Chief Medical Officer thinks it is necessary then the emergency transport will be carried out under medical supervision.
Transport arrangements
All the arrangements must be made by FirstAssist. You may be transported by air ambulance, by a regular airline or by any other method of transport we consider appropriate. The Chief Medical Officer will decide the method of transport and the date and time based on an assessment of your medical condition.
Accompanying person
In all cases where you are under 18, and in other cases where in the opinion of our Chief Medical Officer the medical condition makes it appropriate, another person, who must be 18 or over, may accompany you while you are being moved, we will pay the reasonable and necessary costs of this, including any additional accommodation costs.
Return of mortal remains
If you die abroad we will pay the reasonable costs of taking the body back to the United Kingdom.
Our liability
We will not be liable for:
(a) any failure to provide the emergency transport or for any delays in providing it unless the failure or delay is caused by our negligence (including that of our appointed agents).
(b) failure or delay in providing the emergency transport;
(i) if, by law the emergency transport cannot be provided in the country in which it is needed or;
(ii) if the failure or delay is caused by any reason beyond our control including, but not limited to, strikes, industrial action and flight conditions.
(c) injury or death caused to you while you are being moved unless it is caused by our negligence or the negligence of anyone acting on our behalf.

Unused travel tickets
Any unused portion of your travel ticket and that of any accompanying person, will immediately become our property and must be given to us
What we will not pay for:
Emergency transport is not available to cover the following:

2 Any medical condition for which cover is excluded under Section 4 Medical Emergency Expenses.
3 Injuries from participating in any hazardous activity.
4 If you need to be moved from an oil-rig platform or similar off shore location.
