Poor fund execution compared to other platforms

The Barclays Stockbrokers platform is a poor choice if you wish to trade funds.

They have fewer fund choices than Hargreaves Lansdown and the time to execute an order is much longer than other platforms. Finally, it seems that the software can only work with whole units.

The application process itself was slightly longer than other platforms but this wasn't a major issue.

The user interface is extremely poor and very difficult to navigate - trying to identify how to add money to my ISA made me almost give up!

They refuse to release the money

My mother has dementia and I have Lasting Power of Attorney.

I needed to sell my mothers shares to pay for her care costs but they have flatly refused. I have issued a complaint and they said they would reply by November 10th but they never replied and do not even respond to my lawyer. Would you trust these people with your money. Never.

Horrible company and people

Barclays Stockbrokers best in market

I've been with Barclays Stockbrokers Share Dealing service for a couple of years and they are everything I wanted out of this particular service.

They have an excellent customer service team who work with you to get the account set up. I had to transfer quite a lot of shares over to them and they were excellent in ensuring I had filled in the crest transfer forms correctly and letting me know when they had received all my certificates.

The web-site is excellent with some really useful features for showing your balances. When it comes to buying or selling it always manages to get me a great price and as I work in the same industry I can easily check to see how good the price was at the time of my deal. They also have loads of alerts you can set up to monitor prices.

I also like the fact that if you deal once a quarter them you don't pay any service charge which makes it very cost effective.

Superb features available and great execution prices

Not the cheapest service charge but if you do 1 deal a quarter it work

27 Days Wasted Without MarketMaster Account

It took me 27 days (12/06/15 - 08/0715) to try to open an account with Barclays Stockbrokers. I decided to cancel it in the end, because I didn't want to be stuck with the sloppy service, if anything went wrong with the trading account. Customer service was very polite, the execution was horrible though.

First of all, I was required to apply by post and needed extra documentation, instead of applying online, because I am an EU citizen.

I sent in the application pack, received an e-mail notification saying that I need to send in extra verification. After calling customer service to enquire about the situation, they told me that they needed another document, as they couldn't use the same file twice to confirm details. So I got a bill certified by one of their branches and sent it in again.

This basically went on all the time, with things keep being amiss with my application, which I had to find out by calling customer service to fix. E-mail notifications were unhelpful and these stopped coming in towards the end as well. So I ended up having to try to log-in to the MarketMaster account and call the company if it didn't work.

All in all, customer service was very polite, however, the execution was horrible. Wasted a lot of my time and effort to try and set up an account. Definitely succeeded in conveying the message that they don't care about individual customers. Would not recommend their services and hope that others get better treatment, as I am aware that this might just be a single case.

Barclays stockbroker review

I have used Barclays for many years. The website is ok but the analysis tools on offer on basic. I have seen much better tools elsewhere. The quarterly charge for inactivity also seems steep.

I would consider leaving Barclays but the exit fees have prevented that as they seem very high.

A user friendly app would be nice. I'd also like to receive notifications by email and not via post.
