Skipton BS saving products

Been a user of their savings accounts for many years. They usually offer both instant access and notice accounts with competitive interest rates. Although their online access is not as slick as some of their competitors, they have a large branch network (at least around the north of England) where most transactions can be done.

Skipton web saver easy access account does exactly what it says on the tin!

I needed an internet account where I could transfer money in and out completely flexibly and preferably with some interest. This account does the job brilliantly. I use it for home improvements and transferred a lump sum into it and have been transferring money out when required. It pays 2.5% interest and I plan hopefully to use it as a flexible savings account in the future. Once set up, the internet access makes it so easy to use and it works really well for me.

Complete flexibility of money movements and earning good interest.

The web site is not as good as some other banking sites.

Skipton Regular Saver - gave me 5% on up to 6000

I put ?500 per month into my Skipton Regular Saver for 12 months all at 5.0%, and it matured late 2011. This is a great rate - the account was opened via the post with an initial cheque, and subsequent payments were by standing order. Near to maturity the Skipton sent a letter outlining the options - of a fixed term bond or the balance can readily withdrawn. More recently it was necessary to go to a Skipton branch to open this type of account, and in the last few days the account has, I think, been closed to new applications. We have to hope it will be offered again in the future - similar accounts do seem to be launched periodically by the Skipton.

Excellent rate of 5% gross

Only lasts for 12 months

Skipton Online Bonus Saver Issue 3 promptly displays payments in

This account was simple to open and very straightforward to understand. Payments in are displayed immediately so an accurate balance is always to hand. My only negative is that the description of payments in states only "bank payment" and does not define the specific bank or account from which the credits are sourced. As I potentially make standing orders from different accounts this poses potential confusion.

Simplicity of operation

Insufficient description of source of payments in.
