Shawbrook Bank savings account

In a market where savings rates are low, the Shawbrook Bank offers some of the most competitive rates and money and are protected by the FCA.

I have had prompt and efficient service from them. The account I have requires 120 days notice but for that you get a slightly better return than others. Just about keeps up with inflation but still probably losing slightly after tax is deducted. Not a market for savers at the moment.

Backward call centre

Following a recent complaint over my notice account, I was contacted by a man in customer services who sounded like he had escaped from an Essex cattle market.

He didn't seem overly bothered by my complaint, was rather abrupt towards me on the phone and kept referring to my gross interest as 'gross tax'. The customer service staff were very nice. However, this 'leader' clearly needs to spend a few more years in school. I shall not be reinvesting in the future with this bank.

Fixed term savings account

This is the second year of my fixed term savings account with this bank. I had never heard of them until I started to look for a higher interest rate for some money that I wanted to leave aside for a rainy day!

I have only had to contact them on the telephone once when I wanted to find out what to do when the first fixed term came to an end, they were very helpful and found me the best product to move into for the next fixed term period.

The majority of communication with them is by mail or email but that works fine.

Shawbrook Bank personal savings dreadful customer service

This is a real mickey mouse outfit. I tried to open a 2 year fixed rate bond with them and they insisted I sent a cheque rather than direct debit. They then sent me an email saying my account was open and I could log in on-line.

However, the on-line service simply says unavailable and has done so for 2 days. They do not answer the telephone. All you get is a recorded message. Avoid this lot like the plague. If I could give them negative stars I would.

Instant Access e-saver account

I was a little anxious about putting my savings into this Bank as I was not familiar with the name. However it was recommended by a Financial expert online so I went for it.

Two days in and all is up and running with no problems so far. Let's hope it continues.

Phoned Customer Services to ask a question and they were extremely helpful.
