I recently closed an online easy access savings account because the first time a tried to withdraw from the account I got a message telling me that I had 'invalid codes'.
When the account was opened there was no message of needing any special codes and, even if they are required, they should have been issued when the account was opened. An easy access account is of no use if you cannot easily get your money out.
The person I spoke to on the telephone was happy to close the account but failed to tell me that the bonus interest (2/3rds of the interest due) would not be paid as the account was being closed before a specific date.
On later enquiry as to why the bonus interest has not been paid I was curtly advised that this was due to the account being closed too early.
Nottingham, your savers interest rates are so low, it is almost free money to you. Do you really need to keep hold of the earned bonus interest, when an account you supplied fails to provide what it should and is closed due to your failings.
As a loyal and long standing customer of the Nottingham, I am very disappointed. I expressed my disappointment to them via their online message system but have not even received a reply.
If any reader of this review is considering opening an online easy access account, make sure that you can actually get your money out again easily. Or go somewhere else.
