Good bonus rate

I have had a regular saver account for over 5 years which pays a bonus provided you make regular monthly payments and only make one withdrawal a year.

The rate has been competitive since opening the account and despite looking for alternatives there has been no reason to change.

When I make a withdrawal a cheque is always with me within the week.

I pay by direct debit so do not notice the payments going out and it operates successfully through the post.

Save (with interest) at the Leeds Building Society

A good interest is provided on a simple savings account which has instant accessibility.

Customer service is excellent - friendly staff who know their job. To maintain the account you have to pay in a monthly amount which we arranged to be a standing order of £10. So there is no need to tie up large amounts of money every month. Only the usual requirements to set up an account - proof of personal identity and address.

Convenience of local branch with instant accessibility to funds

Friendly staff, consistent interest rates

With interest rates at an all time low, it is difficult to find a provider that is consistently at the top of the charts. The Leeds Building Society might not be there butI do find their rates to be consistent and they don't make them so ridiculously low unlike some more profit-hungry providers.

The staff do try and push you towards other products but not in an aggressive way.

Leeds Building Society

This used to be about the best long term rates on the market.

When I had a number of ISAs maturing 4 to 5 years ago, they paid a five year fix of about 4.5-4.6% which was a market leader. Their savings accounts (particularly for existing members) had pretty good interest too.

Now all of those previously transferred ISAs are beginning to mature and the general ISA market rates are considerably poorer and Leeds Building Society is even worse than many available.

This is partly due to Government policy giving cheap money to encourage lending which has reduced the need for competition for savers' deposits, but Leeds have still become less competitive at these denuded rates.

First, the matured account will go to Principality on an abysmal 5 yr fix of 2.75% (Leeds don't even have a 5 yr fix anymore) and yes BoE rates may rise next year but variable rate accounts are far worse than this.

Used to be a market leader

Obvioulsy less competitive

Leeds Building Society ISA 3 Yr fixed rate

Ok, I am not "Switched on" when it comes to my finances.

I took out a 3 yr ISA , which was fine but read about the drop in interest when the term has ended.

Mine was pretty horrific, I had a cheque that I needed to deposit but could not decide which company had the best offer at the time. So I put it into the old 3yr fixed term that had ended.

I was given the impression by the team that it would be better to put it in their new fixed term ISA but I wanted time to look at other options. After looking at others I went to the Leeds and asked if I could open a new ISA but was told the account I had my money in was a new ISA (but obviously with a rubbish rate?)

Now I have to transfer my money to another Building Society to open a new account as I can no longer do this at the Leeds?

Confused, yes. Annoyed, yes especially as the young lady I spoke to had not given me the right info at the time I deposited my money. Hence the ratings above.

3yr Fixed term was fine.

Staff not giving correct info as only wanting to sell own product
