Coventry Building Society Savings Reviews

Coventry poppy bond

by jeff96, 6 days ago
One of the best rates available at present
likely to be withdrawn after just a few weeks
Recommended by jeff96

The Coventry Building Society have recently launched a 3 year fixed interest bond at 2.4% gross rate. This is one of the best rates currently available and appears in some best rate tables. I have been a customer of the Coventry Building Society for some years and they often offer some of the best rates of interest on their products. However, these bonds are frequently oversubscribed and are then withdrawn from offer. I hold a similar bond issued a couple of years ago and the offer was only there for a few weeks. A small amount of interest (0.15%) over and above the rate paid to depositors is paid to The Royal British Legion as a donation hence the name of the bond. Since it is extremely difficult to get an interest rate that not only beats the current rate of inflation after tax going forward most savings products guarantee a reduction in the value of savings. Many savings institutions only offer 2% gross if invested for 5 years. If you are over 65 (which I am not) from January the government through NSI has announced that it will launch a new product that will allow investment up to £20,000. Rates could be as high as 4% gross for a 3 year fixed rate bond and 2.8% for a 1 year bond. Details will not be finalised until December but if the rates are this attractive these bonds will probably be oversubscribed on their first day of issue.

Highly competitive isa

by richa67, 1 week ago
very competitive
not many branches
Recommended by richa67

If you can still get their market leading rate then take it because its a real winner which nobody else can match--i read about the rate back in August following a chance purchase of the Daily Mail as after checking the rate did not appear on Best Buy sites on the internet so always worth checking their website i opened my account with their Nottingham branch where the service was excellent from the Manager plus a cup of tea!!My suggestion would be to give them a trial as they really do offer value for money products

Coventry Building Society Poppy Bonds

by Roy, 3 weeks ago
Recommended by Roy

I have used the Coventry Poppy bonds for several years as the fixed interest rate for the coming year is normally near the top of the available rates offered.
The company also makes a Poppy donation too, which is a good charity to support.
The service via mail is always prompt, and I have not had any problems dealing with Coventry BS.

Coventry online savings account

by kes_jo, 4 weeks ago
Online access. User friendly website. Helps fund a worthwhile charit.
Not the highest interest rate around
Recommended by kes_jo

Account was very easy to set up as all done online.
Once set up, the security measures are more long winded than most companies with passwords and grid keys, but having said that I feel more confident in these measures than just using a password.
I have a charity account which means that I am able to give to a good cause whilst saving - although the interest rate reflects that I guess.
The rate of my account has been dropping lately and I need to consider other savings options but based on my experiences with Coventry Building Society I would definitely look at other options within this company.

Coventry Building Society Telephone Saver account.

by ebjb, 1 month ago
Good introductory rate
won't allow me to add any more to it now :-(
Recommended by ebjb

Found product on Internet. Had a great introductory rate which was lowered after first year, then lowered again. However the present rate is comparable with other savings accounts at 1.5% so I have left it there. As far as I know they still have a telephone saver account but the rate is now lower than it was when I applied. Easy to apply and although it's a telephone saver account it can be accessed online. They have very good security measures online (although it takes a bit longer!)

A building society rather than a bank

by anne55, 1 month ago
friendliness
Recommended by anne55

I have had an account for over fifty years but not a mortgage. I have built a relationship with the tellers who tend to stay with the branch for a long time. They are polite, friendly and not constantly trying to tell me other products although they do advise me when I ask for advice.

I am also proud to support a Building Society, especially a local one.

I appreciate that they are actively involved in my local community. Bit of a warm feeling and a local connection rather than it being a huge faceless corporation. And I tend to trust their ethics.

Poppy Bond with Coventry which offers achoice of 1 or 2 year investment

by kzrowl, 1 month ago
Recommended by kzrowl

A yearly investment with an option to withdraw or renew at stated interest rates. Usually a reasonable option and a charity contribution to British Legion.
I have kept a reasonable sum in this account because it is secure and offers a reasonable interest rate. Information on terms for reinvestment always arrives in good time to investigate alternatives available.

Good choice of savings accounts.

I have a Poppy saving account with Coventry, a good product at an excellent rate for the first year. They are not a bank but a Building Society which I find offers a more personal service. I have no branch near me but manage my account online. There is good fraud prevention and online banking is easy. They are easy to reach by telephone and any queries are dealt with efficiently. They have a variety of financial products on offer.

Local Savings easy access

by lizjoy, 1 month ago
Local and accessible
Recommended by lizjoy

In the local branch of the Coventry leaflets about savings options are readily available. You can discuss your needs with an advisor who will tell you the best option for your saving needs. It is important to know what your daily withdrawal limit is and how much notice you need to give to withdraw larger amounts. The easy access accounts comes with a card so you can withdraw up your daily limit outside opening hours ( subject to your own funds being available) Advice on ISAs is available and having savings accounts gives you voting rights as to how the society is run. If the account you have is not the right one for you or a similar product comes available they let you know. Customers with accounts can also get foreign currency at a competitive rate although some currencies require advance notification as do large amounts.
My children had their savings accounts here for years and the staff were always patient with the small amounts they wanted to deposit.
