I have been saving with this monthly saver account for years. The money you put in is allowed to stay there indefinitely and the interest rate is good. The new staff at the office of what is now the Cooperative Society did not realise how good this was, not understanding that a bonus rate applied to this account. There are rules which demand a payment each month for twelve months, but this is not a problem when a direct debit is set up. At the anniversary of the account, the interest plus bonus is added to the account and you can just keep on saving at this great rate.

Monthly direct debit, so no hassle

Good customer service, easy access to funds. range of products available. On the high street. Just merged with COOP, not sure how that will affect feature services. Poor rate of interest but no different to other savings providers. Staff pleasant, have good product knowledge, open saturday mornings. Not used them for anything major such as mortgage, not quite as competative as some of other companies out there.

I liked to save in this account as i could have a direct debit set up with monet going into the account each month to save up. It has a passbook which meant you had to go into branch to take any money out which made me think twice about withdrawals. Unfortunately got took over by co-op and have now found out that my local branch will be closing and i will have to go into another town which i can only do on a saturday. So not that impressed with coop.

Britannia Direct Saver Reserve was OK for 6 months

Opened this account two years ago, noting that it gave a modest 2.0% variable for the first six months only. I wished to keep open my membership of the society, partly so it would be easier to open another Britannia account with better rates. It was limited to 12 withdrawals per year, which was more than enough for me. A snag was that the minimum withdrawal level was set at ?100. After six months the rate dropped by 1.0%. The account could be run by post phone or online. I chose online, which worked satisfactorily. I have now run down my balance to ?1.

Kept my membership
