Absolute Nightmare

We were using this card on our trip to the UK and for some reason, they maintained my base currency as USD although the amount is loaded in GBP.

Though they say that the charge for ATM transactions is nominal, for a specific ATM transaction for 500GBP they charged me 34GBP.

The rational by the call centre guy was that they convert my 500 GBP to USD first and then they convert it back to USD hence charging 17GBP per conversion!

Their service over phone/ email is equally as bad and I would not recommend this product to anyone. Please stay away from this scam.

Thomas Cook prepaid card

My children have both used Thomas Cook Prepaid card to take with them when they have travelled around Europe.

They are easy to top up online or by going down to the local post office when they are away as they both managed to run out of money.

The Thomas Cook card gives you peace of mind knowing that if it is lost then you can claim any outstanding money back.

Thomas Cook cash passport

This card is only as good as the money you pre load onto it. If you, like my daughter, travel and require someone other than yourself back at home to top up for you, like a parent, you have not got a hope in hell. If you run out of money when you are away, you are on your own, rubbish.

Poor service and can't re- load from someone else's account

Thomas Cook borderless prepaid card

It's really awsome, you can hold multiple currencies on one card, you are free to choose any currency to top up and its available at your finger tips.

You can shop in the currency you want and charges are also minimal if it is not loaded in your card, If it is loaded then there is no charge at all!

They provide statements for all the currencies which is very nice and helpful so that you can track and check all your transactions very easily. You can shop online, and also withdraw cash from any ATM. If the ATM says free cash then you will surely get free cash, this is a very nice feature which I liked.

So, i really recommended to get the border less prepaid card by Thomas Cook.

Great idea if it is accepted everywhere it's supposed to

I had to get a pre paid travel card as a last minute option. My bank cards all had fraud on them so were cancelled the day before I was due to go on holiday.

I went into a Thomas Cook branch and applied for the travel card and got one within minutes, there is just a quick form to fill in. You can top up as much as you want and also log in online to make further top ups.

I used all of my credit and used the online top up service. The card can also be used as a cash card at cash machines abroad, this does incur a charge though.

The only problem was that this card is supposed to be accepted anywhere that takes Mastercard. I tried to use it to pay for some clothing in a shopping centre in Spain, but they refused to let me use it as I did not have my passport with me for ID. I don't know why that would make any difference, the pre paid cards do not have your name on them, but I got asked twice in two different shops for id if i wanted to use the card.

This needs to be addressed as luckily I had a bit of cash on me at the time, but it may have been a problem if this was my only means of payment.

Instant access to currency

They are not accepted everywhere
