I have held a policy on two cats for a while, though recent changes or amendments mean this will now come to an end, I had no reason to make a claim whilst a customer, but the contact I did have with them with perfectly acceptable. I would question the overall virtue of pet insurance for cats, in comparison to dogs, despite the premiums not being particularly different.

I have had a policy with Sainsbury's Bank for several years now, covering four different cats. I have always found it easy to understand the differences in the policy details offered for the various illnesses etc. covered. Claiming is extremely easy - filling out a one page form and having the attending vet verify and sign. The monies are usually in my bank account within a week. On the death of an animal the staff handle the cancelling of the account with extreme sensitivity.

Easy to use with competitive rates.

Not the cheapest - and although I signed up on a two for one offer, the administration wasn't able to cope and I've been paying full price for both my cats. Ho hum. Still, claims have been settled promptly and, when my previous cat died, with compassion. Having had to pay the exorbitant fees of a specialist vet - nearly £3k - I've been enormously grateful that this product has meant I haven't had to bankrupt myself to make sure my pet had the best care available to her.

One of my cats had a urinary tract infection at the end of October 2014. There were 4 vets bills, which were sent to Sainsbury's Pet insurance on 17 November 2014. Since then my vet has sent 2 sets of medical history's (they lost the first one)! I have made 7 telephone calls to be fobbed off with "we are waiting for the underwriters to review this claim". It is now 10 weeks since the claim (for £364) was submitted to Sainsbury's and I am no further forward. This policy expires in March and I will not be renewing. Neither will I recommend this insurance to anyone. I am paying £27 monthly for cover for 2 cats. DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE!!!
