It made it easier...

We found the bank through our financial adviser. If it wasn't for the type of mortgage they were offering then we probably would never have got on to the property ladder.

We ended up with an interest only mortgage. Admittedly, it will now be a bit tough going for a standard fixed or variable, but at least we were able to get on the ladder.

The Bank of Ireland staff have always been friendly and quick to help where they can.

Helped when in financial difficulty

Went with Bank of Ireland because they took over from Bristol and West. My partner was made redundant and they were fair and helpful when we got into mortgage arrears until we cleared them. Customer services were always friendly on the phone.

I wish they would let you know what the bad mortgage rate was automatically so that you aren't paying way too much, but I have to say they were helpful and all mortgage companies should do this.

Good but could be better

The lender has a good ethic and offers various products to meet your needs. Should you have difficulty you will get help but it would be better if a good rate didn't increase and take advantage of an already hard situation.

I'm sure this is same whatever lender as they all seem to adopt the same philosophy. A more flexible choice on rates to help those in financial hardship.

Bank of Ireland

Had Two Bank of Ireland mortgage products and both were unsatisfactory. Mistakes were made in payment amounts due each month which resulted in my payment having to be increased by the bank to catch up.

Very poor financial backup for queries compared to other providers. Poor communication when interest rates changed.

Overall the only disasters that I have had with mortgage providers so far.

Always helpful

When the term on our fixed rate mortgage finished we only wanted a 3 Year deal. Every other company without exception wanted almost 1000 in arrangement fees. The Bank of Ireland acknowledged our loyalty and charged nothing.

When we phoned we were almost instantly connected and they gave us good advice about a shortfall and realistic projections so we could save in the event of it happening. Statements are clear and easy to read.

We would recommend to all as they are very fair, willing to listen and give sound advice.
