Ethical banking as it should be

I would recommend the Co-op to anyone. I have never had a problem with them and love the fact that they only invest my money ethically. Their on line banking meets my needs and I can also use the Post Office to deposit and withdraw funds. They do not offer you loans and credit regularly, unlike many of the other banks. Their telephone customer service is also excellent

A great bank that dropped the ball!

We have been with this bank for about 30 years and for most of that time have felt proud to be customers and always have stayed loyal. However, the past few years have been a nightmare in terms of how the senior management of the bank have conducted themselves and have mismanaged the business. The founders of the cooperative movement must be spinning in their graves right now! Whether the damage can be repaired remains to be seen, as does whether the bank can maintain its ethical stance and independence now that it has been taken over by hedge-fund managers, and the like.

The banking sector really does need a bank with values like this in order to give consumers a viable alternative to the big banks. Many of us do not want our hard-earned money to be invested in the arms trade and other unethical activities. Please do give this bank a chance, but don't yet put all your nest-eggs in this one basket case!

The Helpful Bank

With Call Centre agents in this country that are helpful and you can always understand, this bank is the best out of three I have tried. They also do not keep you on the telephone trying to sell you things. Changing or adding details to my account has never been a problem.

I have clear information leaflets sent to me.

They have a clear website.

Helpful staff in branch and on the telephone.

Current Account

Ethical bank and has an excellent customer service. Most of the past troubles have been taken care of and, for me, it is one of the better banks. Online banking is simple and although I don't use a branch too often the staff are always helpful and pleasant. The only minor moan is that they don't add interest on to a credit balance. Otherwise, I see no reason to switch.

customer service.

No interest on credit balances.

Ethical bank, great customer service

I joined Co-operative as I read a news article about how they'd refused some immoral companies/organisations bank accounts and I thought that made a refreshing change. Since being with them they have been amazing. I had an issue with an insurance company who kept changing the direct debit date without telling me, resulting in me going overdrawn. Co-op didn't charge me for any of the instances. Whenever I've had to phone them if I've had a problem (my employer paying me late, queries about payments etc), the UK based customer service staff couldn't be more helpful. The fraud department is also great, as soon as they see unusual activity, they have contact me straight away with an automated service so you press 1 if you recognise the payment and 2 if you don't. They then automatically (if there are dodgy charges) put you through to fraud who are lovely and act really quickly to get any money stolen put back in your account.
