This was very easy to apply for. Nationwide kept us fully informed of progress all the way through. The best thing about it though is the ability to overpay a set amount without penalty each month. You can then use these overpayments to reduce the term or the monthly amount or even to take payment holidays if necessary in the future.

The isa rates used to be very good but have fallen as with all providers. Account rates have to be monitored as the headline rate soon drops. Customer service in my branch is very good. Funds can be transferred between all accounts on line easily and it is possible to move to a better rate without visiting the branch. It doesn't often top the best buy tables these days but may improve once funding for lending disappears.

As a first time buyer I found the entire process of getting a mortgage with Nationwide very easy and uncomplicated. For me and my family this was a big plus. The customer service throughout has been excellent, from day one, I know they are just a call away. I also appreciate the features of the mortgage such as the option to overpay, take a payment break if needed, and that the best renewal rates are reserved for existing customers. I would always recommend a Nationwide mortgage to my friends and family as I have had a very positive experience so far. The main issue I have had since taking out my mortgage in 2012 was worrying about renewing my deal, as my original deal was a fixed rate for 2 years. When renewal time came, I needn't have worried at all as after one short phone call my options were laid out for me in plain English and i was able to pick a new deal, that saved me some money and that was perfect for me.

Great customer service and polite helpful people, family like attitude which makes a lot of difference! Banking with a bank where you have a 24 four helpline is important particularly if you lose your card! You have a wide range of products and services! There are many branches near where I live, so it is really local and handy when your in a hurry, and no matter which branch you go, there is always someone with a smile to help!

We've had our mortgage with Nationwide for over 9 years. The best thing about it is you can make overpayments upto £500 with no penalties, you can then use these overpayments to take a payment break. The only thing I didn't like was a £700 charge to get a new fixed rate, which I don't think is fair but most mortgage providers do this

I have their Basic Bank Account and , because of my poor credit rating, cannot upgrade to something more flexible. I could not use my ATM card abroad to withdraw money and this caused me some problems to say the least. I emailed them prior to leaving telling them that I would use it abroad but received nothing in way of reply telling me that I couldn't use it. This may well have been disasterous had my travel companion not been able to withdraw funds from their account.

Free Account. No overdraft to tempt you.

I have had my current account with Nationwide for many years. Periodically I look at other providers for my current account but they don't seem to be any better than the one I already have. I bank online most of the time, which is very handy, but on occasions I will go into the Branch where I find the staff very pleasant and helpful. They all seem very knowledgeable about their products and willing to assist, if necessary.

Applying for the account was very easy within the Branch and the Staff very willing to help. They went through the options and let me decide which one was the best for me. Nationwide are very good at letting you know when a product is getting to the end of the fixed rate (if it has one) and sending information about alternatives. Once you have an account with Nationwide it is also easy to use their online banking

I have multiple savings accounts with Nationwide and really like the fact that they are mutual. Savings rates everywhere are poor at the moment and have been for some time, so I have moved a lot of our longer term savings into premium bonds in the hope of getting a better return. However, that problem is not unique to Nationwide. My main criticism is of the customer service I receive in branch. I do not have internet banking here. Whenever I need to conduct a transaction over the counter - and for the type of accounts I hold I cannot use self service machines, which I often prefer - I do not enjoy the small talk chit-chat the customer advisors are instructed to try and engage the customers in. I appreciate it is not their fault, and I may be particularly unsociable but I am always asked how my day is, and what am I doing next in town, by someone who clearly doesn't care. I would rather the transaction was purely that. I also don't like the sales approaches every time I need to use the counter. However, if I have reason to speak to other staff in the branch, they are always extremely helpful and polite.

I have had the account so long, I cannot remember how I found it, but have always received excellent customer service, politeness and a warm welcome in branch. Unlike my previous bank/building society, I have never been ignored, had bad advice or left feeling annoyed. Nowadays, you can find their products online, as well as in branch, and I believe they are high in the 'ratings' for all aspects of banking and customer service. I have had postal accounts, Used ATM banking, in branch and online. They all have worked well, and I have never had cause to move elsewhere.

Excellent customer service, choice of products and staff attitude.
