I have had an American Express Platinum Card for several years now. It gives an excellent cash back deal, especially when the card is first taken out. I like the fact that I can still get paper statements, but also check my account online. They are proactive with their fraud checks, and deal with any problems or issues very quickly.

Very happy with this provider. They have good rewards if you want to collect air miles. When I used this for company purposes I earned enough to get a buy one get one free airmiles ticket. Always very helpful if you have an item you are not sure about. Happy to investigate and don't make you feel silly if it is something you just don't recognise. Would recommend them as a provider. Not sure what the rates are as I always pay in full.

I hold my American Express card through MBNA and I have had this card for over 5 years now. I like the status symbol that this card has attached to it. I am a member of the rewards scheme but most of the rewards are not that great. You save up points on your spending and I have been disappointed when my points have expired before I manage to get enough in my account for a decent award. The website is good, you can log in easily and see you points balance, make a payment and everything else you would expect from a market leading credit card company. I cannot comment on the customer service because I have never had to phone them up.

I have been a holder of an American Express Credit Card now for many years. I am one of those people who always pays their card in full each month so this card is ideal for me. I get cash back each time I use the card, so it actually earns for me as I never pay any interest at all each month. On each anniversary, the cash I have built up comes off my card bill or if it is greater than my monthly spend, then the balance comes off the following month. The only downside to this card is the fact that many retailers won't accept American Express anymore, so I have another card that earns points just in case!

This is the best credit card provider that we have ever had. The customer service is first class and when you have an issue it is dealt with very quickly and effectively. The card we have offers cash back which comes in very useful just after Christmas. They also offer priority tickets for certain events which is a nice extra.

My American Express card became compromised as somebody was using it for online betting in the USA. American Express detected this unusual behavior and contacted me immediately to check its validity. American Express cancelled my card, removed the suspicious charges from my account and issued a new card within three days. This attention to security makes me feel more comfortable using American Express.

Had this card for many years and it's great for adding extra Nectar points to my balance. It's ideal for using in most big stores and supermarkets, however, there are still many places that wont accept Amex card which means I have to carry other credit cards which are visa/mastercard in case I need them. Would be really helpful if I could use my Amex in more places.

I love, love, love Amex! My partner and I both share an account. We have a cashback account which was 5% in the first 3 months and I think 1% thereafter. Last year we ended up with about £190 before Christmas which was really helpful. You do need to pay it off each month in full to avoid interest though. Only problem is that not everywhere accepts it.

I decided to get Amex for their rewards program and it seemed to be a decent credit card and highly regarded, therefore I was shocked at how many places rejected it's use (I was told Amex charge shops too much). As such I was unable to spend enough money in 3 months to get the introductory points offer and feel that the whole experience has been a waste of time. Furthermore I booked an Avis car on holiday in Italy as part of the BA Executive Club rewards and despite Avis being a well known brand, we were provided with poor and rude service at the airport, a damaged car, poor and rude customer service on return from the trip and I would never use Avis again at that airport (Bologna)

I am fortunate that I only use credit cards for convenience and don't pay any interest as I pay off the full balance every month. Therefore I am always looking for a card that will reward me for using it. The more I use it the more reward I try to achieve. Applying for the card was quick and easy and the cards (one for my wife as well) were issued very quickly. The credit limit was a little low but they have increased this since joining. The only problems with the American Express card are, firstly, you have to pay an annual subscription of £25. This is not so bad in the first year because you can obtain 5% cash back for the first 3 months and this will cancel out the first year's subscription. The second problem is that some stores will not accept the card because of the charges it makes to retailers. This means that you will always have to have a back-up card in case it is refused. On the positive side you do get 1.25% cash back and also in the anniversary month you get 2.5% but you have to spend £10,000 per year to get this. I would suggest you would only have this card for the cash back which really means paying the full balance off every month. So far after 10 months of having the card I don't have any issues and the customer service is very good. I would recommend having the card only if you would benefit from the cash back as it beats almost all other cards in this respect. Managing your account on line is simple and easy and they will keep you up to date with your spend by sending regular e-mails which is a good way of watching your balance doesn't get carried away. This is very convenient and easy so that you don't have to keep logging into your account. The acceptance issue is a real nuisance and even stores like B&Q don't accept it along with some smaller stores and restaurants. Most petrol stations will accept.
