Tesco Bank Motor Insurance (Third Party, Fire & Theft)

Section C - Cover for Fire and Theft Damage only
We will indemnify you in the terms of Section B (accidental damage cover) but only so far as concerns loss of or damage to your car, including its fitted accessories and spare parts caused by:
(a) Fire, lightning or explosion.
(b) Theft or attempted theft.
Exceptions to Section C
We will not be liable under the section above if:
(i) The car is left unattended or unoccupied and the doors and boot are not locked or any window or roof opening/hood has not been secured/closed or if the keys are not removed from the car.
(ii) At the time of the incident, the car is being driven or used without your permission by any person in your family or household, unless the person is reported to the police for taking the car without your consent.
(iii) The loss is as a result of deception or fraud.
(iv) The loss arises whilst your car is in the custody or control of any person with your permission who is not covered under this policy.
EXCESS AMOUNT
Our liability in respect of each and every claim under this Section shall be reduced by the amount shown in the Schedule as Excess Amount for Fire and Theft Section C. collapse

Section Ji Temporary Replacement Car
This section only applies if it is shown on Your motor insurance Schedule.
Definitions that apply to Temporary Replacement Car
Hire Vehicle A small hatchback or similar, registered as a private light goods vehicle that is supplied to you by the hire car company.
Hire Car Company The company that we instruct to give you the hire vehicle.
Hire Period The period we will pay for the hire vehicle, up to 14 days in a row, for any one incident.
What is covered
If Your vehicle is damaged as a result of an accident, fire or theft, or if it is stolen and not recovered, we will arrange for the hire car company to provide you with a hire vehicle, as long as the loss takes place on the UK mainland and we are dealing with Your claim under Sections B or C of Your policy. You may be charged a refundable deposit, when you take delivery of the hire vehicle. The deposit will be refunded on return of the hire vehicle to the hire car company, subject to the hire car company's terms and conditions.
The Hire Vehicle should keep you mobile. It may not be a similar size, type, value or status to Your vehicle.
The most we will pay
If we are unable to find you a hire vehicle, or Your vehicle has been professionally adapted or converted to carry a disabled driver or passenger, and a suitable hire vehicle is not available, instead of providing you with a hire vehicle we will pay Your travel costs (up to £15 a day over the 14 days following Your claim) whilst you carry out Your normal daily routines.
What is not covered
We will not provide you with a hire car if you are only claiming for windscreen or glass damage.
We will not pay for Your hire vehicle for longer than the shortest of the following periods:
- the hire period;
- more than three days after payment has been issued to settle Your claim; or
- if more than one payment is to be made to settle Your claim, up to three days after the first payment has been made
Conditions that apply to this section
a) You may only use the hire vehicle whilst Your vehicle remains off the road or whilst Your vehicle is with a motor vehicle repairer as a result of an accident, fire or theft covered by this Section Ji.
b) When you are driving the hire vehicle during the hire period, it is insured under Your policy. This means that any claim for injury, loss or damage that takes place will be made under Your policy, as long as the driver, or the person last in charge of Your car, is permitted to drive by Your Certificate Of Motor Insurance. Any payments we have to make under Your policy for loss or damage to the hire vehicle will be made to the hire car company. You will also have to pay any excess that applies as if the claim was made for Your own vehicle.
c) You may only use the hire vehicle on the UK mainland, unless the hire car company gives you permission and appropriate insurance cover.
d) The terms and conditions of the hire car company apply as well as ours. You will be given a copy of the hire car companys terms and conditions when you receive the hire vehicle. If there is any difference between our terms and conditions and the terms and conditions of the hire car company, our terms and conditions will apply.
e) All requests for the reimbursement of travel costs will need to be reasonable and substantiated with documentary evidence.
Section Jii Finest Temporary Replacement Car
This section only applies if it is shown on Your motor insurance Schedule.
Definitions that apply to Finest Temporary Replacement Car
Hire Vehicle A car or van registered as a private light goods vehicle that is supplied to you by the hire car company.
Hire Car Company The company that we instruct to give you the hire vehicle.
Hire Period The period we will pay for the hire vehicle, up to 21 days in a row, for any one incident.
What is covered
If Your vehicle is damaged as a result of an accident, fire or theft, or if it is stolen and not recovered, we will arrange for the hire car company to provide you with a hire vehicle, as long as the loss takes place on the UK mainland and we are dealing with Your claim under Sections B or C of Your policy. You may be charged a refundable deposit, when you take delivery of the hire vehicle. The deposit will be refunded on return of the hire vehicle to the hire car company, subject to the hire car companys terms and conditions.
The hire vehicle should keep you mobile. Although we hope to provide you with a hire vehicle that is a similar physical size to Your vehicle, we do not guarantee that this will occur. Therefore, Your hire vehicle may not be the same as Your own vehicle in terms of its size, type, value or status.
The most we will pay
If we are unable to find you a hire vehicle, or you suffer an injury during the accident which prevents you from driving, instead of providing you with a hire vehicle we will pay Your travel costs, (up to £50 a day and up to a maximum of £500 over the 21 days following Your claim), whilst you carry out Your normal daily routines.
What is not covered
We will not provide you with a hire car if you are only claiming for windscreen or glass damage.
We will not pay for Your hire vehicle for longer than the shortest of the following periods:

This means that any claim for injury, loss or damage that takes place will be made under Your policy, as long as the driver, or the person last in charge of Your car, is permitted to drive by Your Certificate Of Motor Insurance. Any payments we have to make under Your policy for loss or damage to the hire vehicle will be
made to the hire car company. You will also have to pay any excess that applies as if the claim was made for Your own vehicle.
c) You may only use the hire vehicle on the UK mainland, unless the hire car company gives you permission and appropriate insurance cover.
d) The terms and conditions of the hire car company apply as well as ours. You will be given a copy of the hire car companys terms and conditions when you receive the hire vehicle. If there is any difference between our terms and conditions and the terms and conditions of the hire car company, our terms and conditions will apply.
e) All requests for the reimbursement of travel costs will need to be reasonable and substantiated with documentary evidence.

Section G - Foreign Use
1 Use Abroad
Subject to our consent and to the payment of any additional premium requested, we will issue an International Motor Insurance Certificate/Green Card in respect of your car. This Policy will then provide the same level of cover as you have in the territorial limits for the agreed period: (a) In any country specified (and not deleted) in the Green Card. (b) In direct connection with the transit by sea, rail or air between such countries by a recognised carrier.
2. European Union (E.U.) Compulsory Cover
We will provide the minimum insurance to allow you to use your car: (a) In any member country of the E.U. (b) In any other country which the Commission of the E.U. is satisfied has made arrangements to meet the requirements of Article 7(2) of the E.C. Directive on Insurance of Civil Liberties arising from the use of Motor Vehicles (no. 72/166/CEE).collapse

Up to 70% No-claims discounts
We'll give you a discount of up to 65% based on the number of continuous claim free years you have been insured. And if your are over 50 there is a further 5% No-claims discount available on top.collapse

Discount for named drivers
We're giving claim free named drivers on Tesco policies a discount when they take out their own policy with us. Just give us the name, date of birth and postcode of the policyholder whose insurance you are covered under.
Discount is based on the number of continuous claim-free years as a named driver (min. 1 year) and the policy you are named under being live when the discount is applied. This benefit may not be applicable on policies with other insurers.
Example
You have a car that's insured by Tesco car insurance and your daughter is a named driver with at least one claim-free year. If she decides to take out a policy with us in her own right we'll take her driving history into account and give her a discount on her premium.collapse
