How to Find a Cheap Pub Insurance Quote

We look at how to compare pub insurance quotes to make sure you get a policy that fits, for less.

Getting the best insurance for pubs can save you money, your entire business and even your home if you’re a live-in landlord. However, getting the right insurance at the cheapest price can prove more difficult.

To take the trouble out of your cheap pub insurance comparison, we look at the aspects of cover typically offered by UK insurers so you can get a pub business insurance quote that prioritises your pub’s protection without costing the earth.

1. Public liability insurance

Public liability insurance for pubs gives you financial protection for claims against your business brought by customers, based on any accident, illness or injury they sustained whilst in your establishment.

Pub liability insurance is designed to pay out for ongoing healthcare costs, loss of earning and legal fees; but check if these have their own individual limits within your total cover. Consider the risk to your pub’s guests and choose a cover limit that gives you the cover you need, there’s no point in paying higher premiums if you aren’t going to need the extra cover they offer.

You will need to ensure that you abide by local licensing law and your personal pub license, as failure to do so may invalidate a claim you make and mean you’ll pay any third party costs on your own.

2. Employers liability insurance

Employers liability cover is a legal requirement for all businesses. It offers the same protection as public liability cover for pubs, but is used for claims made by employees rather than customers.

Employers liability insurance for pubs will pay out for employee damages based on discrimination and/or unfair dismissal, as well as any illness or injury sustained as a result of the work they do for you. The maximum cover available can reach £10,000,000, but you can tailor your policy to only reflect insurance that you may need.

3. Professional indemnity cover

Professional indemnity cover will pay out if your business is sued for professional negligence, neglect or error. You will need to decide if, and how much cover you need. Check if legal costs are included and if they are subject to their own cover limit so you aren’t left fighting a case alone.

3. Building and contents cover

Building and contents insurance for pubs will pay out for claims of accidental damage, loss or theft from the pub, or vandalism of its premises. If you own the building then this could prove vital to let you return to trading as quickly as possible. You should also check if rebuild costs are included in its cover limit. However, if your pub is rented, you should check that your landlord has insurance to this effect so that you don’t pay for unnecessary cover.

If you tailor a policy to your exact requirements when you take out insurance you can set out the precise level of cover you need, and ensure that the cheapest pub insurance quote won’t leave your business unprotected.
