7 Top Tips for Answering Questions on Q&A

by Hannah from money.co.uk •

If you use the know-how of the money.co.uk community to get answers to your financial questions, why not give a little something back? Here are our top tips to help you give as good as you get when you answer questions on Q&A:

1. Share your knowledge

If someone has asked a question that you know the answer to, please share your knowledge, support and/or experience and post a response. The more helpful you are, the more likely your answer will be chosen as the ‘best answer’ and you’ll be rewarded with Kudos.

2. Be nice

Think of money like a ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ question – it’s easy if you know how, but if you don’t, you need to ask for help. So please don’t be rude, sarcastic or disrespectful when you respond to a question, comment or answer – keep your posts constructive and friendly.

3. Find questions you can answer

If you’re particularly knowledgeable about a particular aspect of money management - whether this relates to a type of Action Plan or financial product - you can flag this as an ‘Area of Interest’ in your money.co.uk profile (you can choose as many as you like). You’ll then be able to quickly find questions that you can easily answer and posts you want to comment on using the 'areas of interest' search.

Alternatively, you can search Q&A to find questions relating to a specific financial product or Action Plan, those posted by a particular user, or that contain words and/or phrases ‘like’ those that you enter.

4. Keep it on topic

The money.co.uk community is here for ideas, support and guidance, not to put up with ranting, abuse or any other kind of unpleasantness. Please take a look at our posting guidelines and keep posts clean and on-topic.

5. Give credit where it’s due

Feel free to cite, or refer to, other sources of information in your answers, but don’t plagiarise. Instead, please use quotation marks and/or italics to make it clear that you’re using someone else’s words, and say who you’re quoting and where you found the information.

6. Use proper English

Your answer will be more easily understood, and more useful, if you use correct spelling and grammar - so no text-speak please.

7. Give ‘thanks’

If someone has posted a question or answer that you think is helpful or useful in some way make sure you ‘thank’ them – it's only polite!
