Safety 'Top Priority' for Home Choice

A new Halifax Home Insurance survey has found that a feeling of safety plays a large role when people choose where to live.

Safety is one of the most important aspects of a location, according to a new study from a home insurance provider.

The findings were part of the Halifax Home Insurance Peace of Mind Campaign, which sought to find the parts of Britain where people were most proud of their region. Those in the north-east of England were found to be most in love with their surroundings, with nearly three-quarters saying they felt proud of the area, while East Midlands residents were the least enthusiastic, with just 45 percent.

In terms of what created these strong feelings, feeling safe was rated the second most important factor - cited by 47 percent of respondents - behind closeness to home and loved ones. Additionally, safety was the largest issue cited by people when it came to choosing where to move to next.

"Not only is safety in an area a top reason for feeling 'regional pride', it is also top on the priority for most people when deciding where to live," said Halifax Home Insurance senior claims manager Martyn Foulds. "Being able to enjoy your home and surroundings is a hugely important factor, so we urge people to be aware of taking every step possible to ensure their homes and families are well protected."
