Google Unveils New Search Technologies

Internet giant Google offers a glimpse of what it believes will be the future of internet use.

Conducting a search on the internet could change dramatically in the near future, according to Google.

The company has been showcasing some of its latest developments at its Searchology event.

While in recent years the company has branched out into other areas of computing, it is still determined not to lose its domination of the search market.

"The race in search is far from over and innovation and continued improvement is absolutely pivotal," explained Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and user experience.

One of the new technologies, called Google Squared, presents search results in the form of a spreadsheet rather than a list.  For example, if a user searches for "small dogs", a spreadsheet of dogs will be displayed, showing photos, descriptions and various attributes of the animals.

The company has also attempted to make searches easier through Google Search Options. This tool allows users to filter out irrelevant results from search listings. They can ask the system to only show results which are blogs, videos or other types of content.

A third product, called Rich Snippets, provides more information with search results. Searching for a restaurant will return a range of information, such as review scores and price ranges for the eateries in the search listing.
