Insurance provider advises people taking a caravan holiday this year to buy travel insurance.
Travel insurance is "crucial" for holidaymakers, even if they are only planning to take a trip within the UK in a caravan, according to esure.
The insurance provider cited figures from the National Caravan Council showing that increasing numbers of Britons are turning to caravans for a holiday. The company offered holidaymakers a number of tips for having a successful caravan holiday.
Firstly, travel insurance should be purchased at the same time as booking the holiday - this means any trips which may need to be cancelled because of sudden illness will be covered. The firm added that even the threat of illness could result in trips being cancelled, with the potential for the government to restrict movement around the country as a result of swine flu.
Home insurance policies should also be checked before buying travel insurance, according to esure. While many of these policies protect belongings when they are taken out of the home temporarily, there could be certain limits if they have been taken on caravan trips.
"It's crucial for anyone looking to go away on a caravanning holiday - or a UK break of any other kind - to have the right cover to protect them and their possessions if the unexpected happens," Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, concluded.
