Taxi Driver Receives $14,580 Donations After Remarkable Act of Honesty

An Argentinean taxi driver has been extraordinarily rewarded for his honesty after returning a bag stuffed with thousands of dollars left in the back of his cab to its owner.

An extraordinarily honest Argentinean taxi driver has received thousands of dollars in good-will donations after returning the $32,500 (approx £21,600) cash he found in his taxi to its rightful owner.

Argentineans across the world are heralding Santiago Gori as an exemplary figure and a website set up in his honour has so far received donations of over $14,580 to reward him for his integrity.

Gori, who drives a taxi in the Argentinean city of La Planta, made his lucky find after dropping off an elderly couple who had travelled a short distance in his cab. According to reports, they had somehow left a bag filled with thousands of dollars on the back seat.

While many would simply have taken the money and run, Gori set to work finding the couple. He finally managed to track them down several days later and promptly returned their bag to them with its contents complete.

Unsurprisingly, this heart-warming story has struck a chord with people the world over, but it’s Argentineans who seem to have been most affected by the tale as many feel that honesty is a trait that’s being lost from their society.

As such, on hearing the news, two young Argentineans decided to set up a website dedicated to congratulate Santiago Gori for his cast-iron principles. Thousands of people have since visited the site, leaving monetary donations, messages and offers of treats such as snowboarding lessons, sat navs and even the opportunity to record a single should Gori wish to start a music career.

While many would let this sudden rush of good fortune go to their head, Gori is said to be baffled by the whole thing and maintains that he simply did what he saw as the right thing.

One thing is for sure, his actions will certainly remind everyone that hears the story why honesty is always the best policy.

Personally I would have taken the money to the police, but this is exemplary nonetheless

See, "good works" are rewarded. I think the reward enough would have been returning the cash...but some more unscrupulous individuals would have made off with the cash and used it for ill-gotten gain. Huge props for the Driver who did the right thing. Humanity exists.

Maybe it's my cynicism, but if someone left $30,000 cash in the back of my taxi I'd be worried about the type of person who carries $30,000 in cash, and what that type of person would do to me if I *didn't* return the money.
