A series of materials have been made available online by the government, aimed at helping young people understand tax.
The government is hoping to boost British children's understanding of tax through a new package of online resources.
Aimed at education professionals, the materials include important facts and figures, but also quizzes, videos and games to keep young people's interest. They are also suitable for charities and other organisations which work with unemployed young adults.
"It is more important than ever for young people to learn about how their taxes contribute to society's needs and the essential services that would not be possible without everyone's tax contributions," said Stephen Timms, financial secretary to the Treasury.
"Nearly one million pupils leave education and enter the tax system each year. By gaining a better understanding of tax and national insurance, they will be much better prepared for their life ahead."
The package, labelled Tax Matters, is available here. It forms part of the three-year My Money programme which has been created by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to help teachers educate children about finance.
Linda Trinder, head of business and economics at London's Mill Hill County High School, helped HM Revenue & Customs produce the package over six months. "It was really important that the Tax Matters material reflected what education professionals would need on the ground, and hopefully my involvement has helped to achieve that," she said.
