People living in London are the most likely to be burgled out of the whole of the UK, new research finds.
London is the riskiest city for burglary in the country, a new study from Endsleigh Insurance Services has revealed.
The finding formed part of the company's Homes Report 2009, which listed the ten safest and riskiest UK locations for burglary. Preston residents were found to be the least likely to fall victim to household theft.
Nottingham and Bristol completed the top three "risky" cities, while Norwich and Ipswich joined Preston as the UK's safest places. However, Endsleigh spokesperson Rhiannon Harris said that the findings did not reflect the total number of incidents, but the amount of thefts compared to the number of policyholders in the area.
"Clearly some towns and cities represent a greater risk than others but regardless of where you live every householder in the country needs to be aware of the possibility of burglary," she said.
Endsleigh warned that homeowners should be vigilant, citing Home Office figures showing a recent spike in burglaries as the recession has taken hold - although incidents have gone down overall in the last decade.
"It's crucial that, as well as helping the success of neighbourhood safety schemes where they can, people across the country remain vigilant when it comes to home security," Ms Harris added.
