Insurance provider InsureandGo has revealed that the type of claims made by skiers depend on the quality of the season.
The nature of ski-related travel insurance claims seen by providers varies widely according to the quality of the snow season, one insurance firm has claimed.
InsureandGo founder Perry Wilson revealed that during years when there is not enough snow, injury claims tend to rise, as people end up skiing on icy patches or falling on hard ground. Conversely, when there is good snowfall factors can include piste closure due to the weather, resulting in other sorts of claims.
"The claims change depending on how good the season is; with claims this year it has been a good season so we are expecting our claims to look good this year for personal accident and injury but we will get more for [lost] baggage as there are more people going," he explained.
However, it is the medical care claims that always end up costing the most, according to Mr Wilson. Receiving physiotherapy on the slopes - even for just sprains or bruises - can result in costs of £182.
Injuries sustained in the USA can be even more costly, he added. "The higher costs we get are usually American ones where they've broken a leg and need to come in business or first class because they need the room but those are one-offs."
