Axa Updates Travel Insurance Policies

Axa has tweaked its travel insurance policies to ensure that UK citizens going to the Channel Islands will be covered for medical treatment.

Customers at Axa will now be covered for healthcare costs if they fall ill or are injured while visiting the Channel Islands, the insurer has announced.

The Department of Health issued a warning last month that a reciprocal agreement between the government and the various executives of the islands came to an end at the end of March. Under the deal, UK citizens were covered for medical costs on the islands, which are not covered by the NHS or the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

Additionally, travellers from the Channel Islands who visit the UK will no longer be able to receive free treatment from the NHS. Axa has updated its policies to reflect this change to circumstances, with cover available for both UK and Channel Island citizens.

"It's important for consumers and business travellers to be aware of these changes and ensure that they have cover if they are travelling to or from the Channel Islands this year," said Axa head of travel Alison Patrick.

"All customers that have policies underwritten by AXA can feel safe in knowing that should the unfortunate happen while they are away, they will be covered for the cost of medical treatment."
