An Entire English Village For Sale For Just £25 million

The picturesque village of Linkenholt, Hampshire, is to be offered for sale this week.

This Thursday the idyllic village of Linkenholt goes on sale and, should you have a spare £25 million sitting in the bank, it could be yours in its entirety.

Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, near Andover in the North Wessex Downs, the village boasts a manor house, cricket club, 22 pre-let houses, a blacksmith, village shop and a commercial shoot, all included within the asking price. Over 1,500 acres of farm land and 450 acres of woodland will also be included as part of the deal.

In fact, the only part of the village not to be included is the separately-owned, 12th century church which still holds a regular service.

The village is being sold by its current owner, the Herbert & Peter Blagrave Charitable Trust, an organisation who raise funds to help disabled children and injured jockeys. After consulting local residents they decided it was best to sell the whole village as a single package so as to cause as little disruption to the look of the land and pace of life in Linkenholt as possible.

Newbury-based estate agents, Jackson-Stops & Staff, who are set to broker the deal have confirmed that the asking price will sit between £23 - £25million and marked it a good offer, noting that the estate has held its value particularly well since the start of the credit crunch.

"It is very unusual, particularly in southern England, to have a whole village for sale.” Commented Tim Sherston from Jackson-Stops & Staff.  “I think there was one in Oxfordshire about four or five years ago but that is the only one I can think of,"

"It's an excellent opportunity for someone to invest in prime agricultural and residential property and it's a safe location to park their money in these troubled times.

"There has been a lot of interest in it."

Wow ! for only 25 million quid i could buy the whole village, lock stock and barrel ? Then it would take me a couple of weeks to bring in the earth moving equipment, clear the land, cut down the forest, drain the bog and build a whole slew of 10 story flats to pre-let. Smashing, Simply Smashing ( no pun intended), Where do I sign up?

Does it come with free title and do we get to evict the present villagers?Would we get to set the tax based on agriculture as opposed to a village if we could have the villagers relocated? Possible turn it into a theme park..........

They are using the economic situation as an excuse to sell off everything good and pure. What are the chances that some person or entity will come in an fix what ever problem that is occuring to make a whole town go up for sale? Who knows who will buy this town, or what their intentions will be. People in this day and age are too quick to sell out the heritage for a just a few bucks.

Do we get to own it as allodium - i.e. Allodial Title to it to own it true, clear and outright? Or do we only get an Equitable Title to the land such as in the case of Real Estate?
