Many Brits are looking for a cheap holiday this year, according to new research - but one thing that shouldn't be cut back on is travel insurance.
People trying to save money on their holiday will be at risk of paying far more if they shirk buying quality travel insurance, it has been claimed.
According to American Express Insurance Services, one in six Brits' main concern over their holidays this year is to keep costs down. This has led to a number of trends appearing, with many people looking to travel outside of Europe to avoid the high cost of the euro against the pound.
Chris Rolland, the firm's head, speculated that the recession has led to Brits wanting to reduce their spending but by the same token has made them keener to get out of the country and have some fun. Separate research from travel association ABTA has backed this theory, with the recent cold weather also fuelling UK consumers' desire to go somewhere sunny.
However, the trend for people choosing places "further afield" means that holidaymakers should make sure that they "have the right cover to avoid costly mishaps putting added pressure on your finances", warned Mr Rolland. "Although people are cutting down on the cost of their holidays this year, it is important that they don't make cut back on the travel insurance," he added.
