Home insurance firm More Th>n has issued advice for homeowners hit by the UK's severe weather conditions.
Householders in areas of the country experiencing heavy snow should follow a series of steps to ensure that their home is not damaged, according to a home insurance firm.
Large areas of the UK have been hit by a severe snowstorm, with many unable to reach their place of work. In London, large amounts of the Tube network have not been running, while buses are not on the streets because of the dangerous driving conditions.
The Met Office has issued an extreme weather warning for England, Wales and parts of Scotland, with between four and 12 inches of snow forecast to fall today.
Prime minister Gordon Brown told reporters: "We are doing everything in our power to ensure services, road, rail and airports are open as quickly as possible, and we are continuing to monitor this throughout the day."
However, More Th>n advised that homeowners should make sure they protect their properties against the effects of the weather. It suggested leaving central heating running all day at a constant temperature, rather than on a timer.
People who will not be at home should either leave their heating on, or drain off water and heating systems. Additionally, they should leave their home insurance details with friends or relatives, to ensure that they are not damaged if the worst occurs.
