The AA has issued a warning to those planning to drive on New Year's Day, after a boozy night of celebrating.
Four in every five UK drivers think that they might have exceeded the drink-drive limit when driving their car on the morning after a boozy night. This is the main finding of a new survey from car insurance provider the AA, released today. The car insurance firm used the study to issue a warning to New Year's revellers, many of whom risk road accidents from drinking to excess at parties. Official government figures highlight the huge influence alcohol has on UK road accidents. For example, the data shows that drivers involved in three in four pedestrian fatalities from accidents occurring between 10pm and 4am were over the limit. Edmund King, AA president, said: "On most occasions the majority of drivers will not be over the drink drive limit the morning after. However, if someone has been to a party drinking into the early hours and gets little sleep they might be over the limit the next morning. The car insurance firm's study also showed that 47 percent of UK motorists are aware that people they know sometimes drive while under the influence of alcohol. Around two thirds said that they would contact the police if they found out that someone was driving over the limit.
