The Labour card carries an APR more than twice as high as its best-buy rival.
Delegates at the Labour party convention were offered a branded credit card carrying an APR of over ten percent more than some others on the market.
The Visa card, which was given to people in return for a £15 donation for the party, comes with a rate of 18.9 percent, the Scotsman reports. By contrast, the best-buy card currently on the market has an APR of just 8.5 percent.
Moreover, despite the fact that the party has three separate credit cards, only the most expensive was publicly offered at the convention, which took place in Manchester this week.
Labour has faced a funding crisis recently, with prime minister Gordon Brown consistently showing double-digit poll deficits compared with Conservative party leader David Cameron. This leaves the party less able to meet its costs and fund publicity campaigns for elections at the same time.
It currently has debts of around £16 million, although this total has fallen by £11 million over the past three years. Harry Potter author JK Rowling also improved Labour's financial position this week, by donating £1 million.
Commenting on the card to the newspaper, a Labour spokesman said that it was "comparable" to the branded credit cards offered by other British political parties, including the Conservatives. "We offer a range of services to our members, as do almost all large membership organisations," he added.
