Home burglary - and the measures used by people to prevent it - is to be put under the spotlight by Legal & General.
A major new security consultation has been announced by insurer Legal & General.
The home insurance provider's Safe as Houses survey, which is available through the firm's website, is now open for customer submissions until early next month. Included in the document are questions on what home security precautions are currently being taken.
Recent research from Legal & General has shown that households which have no security measures in place, such as deadlocks on doors, stand a 25 percent chance of being burgled. Among those which had installed the extra security measures, however, this risk stood at just 2.3 percent - or, over ten times less.
Elaine Parkes at Legal & General also suggested that the consultation could have an impact on the home insurance sector as a whole. "As a household insurer…we believe it is important to improve consumer awareness of home safety and security measures," she commented.
"Installing an intruder alarm, good quality locks and security lighting or living in a Neighbourhood Watch area can all help to deter a burglar entering a person's home…we also offer customers a possible discount on the costs of their cover, if they do take some security and safety precautions."
Safe as Houses closes on October 10th.
