The popular clothes company suffered a data breach via an online hack.
Online hackers have stolen the details of credit card holders with clothing retailer Cotton Traders.
The fraud was perpetrated in January and affected around 38,000 people, the BBC reports. The operator of the Cotton Traders credit card, Barclaycard, was contacted "immediately" and cancelled most of the accounts.
When contacted by the broadcaster, payments association APACS confirmed the hack, and said that police are currently investigating the incident. Cotton Traders also released a statement, which said that all personal credit card data was "encrypted" by the firm and therefore remained secure.
"Cotton Traders have recently upgraded all security on their website which has been validated by leading Industry experts," the statement added. "We would like to reassure all our customers that their data is secure and that the Cotton Traders website meets all leading Industry security standards." The firm did not confirm the size of the data breach.
While the exact method of the fraud remains unclear, the BBC claims that some addresses of credit card holders were targeted by the hackers.
Cotton Traders currently retains around one million customers.
