Check Up On Holiday Weather, Esure Says
New research from Esure Travel Insurance has shown that many holidaymakers are unaware of extreme weather patterns in popular tourist hotspots.
According to the travel insurance firm, 79 per cent of Britons do not know the dates of the hurricane season in the US, while 87 per cent remain unaware of the monsoon season in Asia. This could mean that some travellers on last minute deals could face adverse weather conditions, and, consequentially, flight delays and potential travel insurance claims.
Esure Travel Insurance also found that almost half (48 per cent) of holidaymakers check for severe weather warnings prior to booking their trip, and that a similar amount check the website of the Foreign Office to see if there are any warnings related to their chosen destination. Moreover, a hard core of 20 per cent admitted to Esure that they did not take out any form of travel insurance cover for their trip.
The firm's head of travel insurance, Jacky Brown, said: "Most people love to jump on the bandwagon of a sales season, or last minute bargain bucket deal. A holiday package may look great from the outset, but come holiday time - you could be caught out by flying out to your destination, such as Mexico, during the hurricane season.
"Delays and even flight cancellations in such extreme weather are inevitable, therefore it's vital to make sure you have travel insurance to make sure you're covered."
The US hurricane season begins next week.
