Free Upgrades for Virgin Media Customers

Virgin Media announce plans to more than double access speeds available on their 'L' package.

This week communications giant Virgin Media announced plans to enhance their broadband network that will see their customers getting more, for less in 2008.

If you currently subscribe to Virgin Media’s ‘L’ broadband package you will soon be able to enjoy connection speeds of up to 10mbps without paying a penny extra. This represents more than a two fold increase in access speed when compared to the 4mpbs currently on offer as part of this package.

This move to up connection speeds for a large proportion of it’s already vast customer base is only going to do more to enhance Virgin Media’s popularity. Especially as, for the forseable future, most ADSL broadband providers will only be able to offer connection speeds of up to 8mbps as a maximum and are therefore unable to compete with this offer of super fast access.

To put this increase into perspective, customers on Virgin Media’s ‘L’ package will soon be able to download an album in less than a minute and a TV programme in less than 5 minutes.

Plans to implement this upgrade will start at the end of February and will be rolled out region by region with all eligible homes being able to enjoy this connection enhancement by the end of the summer.

However, this announcement isn’t the only string in Virgin Media’s bow. They are also planning to introduce a 50mbps UK-wide broadband service by the end of 2008. This will represent the fastest residential connection speed available and is a clear sign that Virgin Media are largely responsible for driving the boundaries of broadband access forward.

Acting CEO of Virgin Media Neil Berkett, said: “Virgin Media's cable network gives us a natural superiority over other broadband services. We've barely scratched the surface of what's possible with our cable network, and we will continue to look for new ways to satisfy the growing demand for even faster broadband in the UK. We're proud to be leading the country's superfast broadband revolution.”
