Get Christmas Cash Back from Amazon ExpiryMoney Saving Tip
Type: Advice
Expiry: 19th Oct 2008 (Expired)

Take advantage of Amazon's price promise and get cash back on your Christmas spending.

It's always so frustrating when items you purchase before Christmas go down in the sales immediately after. Thankfully, this year if you did your Christmas spending online with shopping giant Amazon you'll be laughing all the way to the bank

What's the deal?

Amazon have a hidden price promise that guarantees the cost of your purchases for 30 days. This means that if something you've bought drops in price within 30 days you can claim the difference back.

What with things being reduced left right and centre in the January sales the chances of at least one of your purchases going down in price are pretty high, definitely making an investigatory return visit worth your while.

How to benefit

Unsurprisingly this isn't something that Amazon do automatically so if you want to claim your money back you will need to do a little bit of leg work.

  • First of all you'll need to check out whether your purchases have been reduced. To do this you should log into your Amazon account and view all the items you've bought in the last 30 days. You can check the new price of each item simply by clicking on their associated links.
  • If you find any reductions make a note of their current and purchase price along with your order reference number.
  • Visit Amazon's 'Help' section and click on the 'Customer Services' link in the contact box.
  • Select the relevant order and click the 'Contact Amazon' button.
  • You'll then be taken to a form where you will be able to request a refund on the basis that an item you have purchased has dropped in price in the last 30 days. Make sure you enter details of the reductions you have found along with your order reference number
  • You should then receive an email reply confirming that the difference will be credited back to your card.

Expiry date

As this price promise is a standard part of Amazon's customer services policy there is no expiry date. This means you can take advantage of this price guarantee throughout the year.

Conditions

The price promise only applies to products purchased direct from Amazon in the last 30 days. The guarantee doesn't extend to items purchased from sellers in Amazon Marketplace. If you are unsure whether your items are eligible you can visit your order history and check.
