How to cut your utility bills

Consider: Is it worth getting energy efficient appliances?

There are an increasing number of energy efficient products on the market which are well worth considering if you need to replace an old appliance such as a kettle, washing machine or fridge. Look for AAA rated products as these will be the most efficient when it comes to using energy.

If you have an old combi-boiler or storage heater it's worth getting a quote for an A rated high efficiency condensing boiler as this could help to cut your heating bills significantly. You can check whether you are eligible for any grants or discounts to help with the cost of replacing your boiler on the Energy Saving Trust's website.

You should also look at installing energy efficient heating controls in your home if you don't have them already including a timer, thermostats on radiators in each room and a cylinder thermostat.

Small changes like fitting energy saving lightbulbs throughout your home will make a difference to your energy bills without requiring a significant outlay.
