How to cut your utility bills

Before you contemplate switching energy supplier it's important to find out which price plan or tariff you are on.

For both gas and electricity you'll need to find out:

• The name of the tariff
• Whether it's a fixed, capped or variable deal
• Whether you'll be penalised for switching before a certain date
• How much this penalty would be
• How you are currently paying

This information should be on the initial paperwork you received. However, you can also check your annual energy statement as this will be detailed here too.
